CLASSES AND CURRICULA
Pre K - 2nd Grade: Chalice Children
This curriculum is based around developing UU identity. Major faith traditions are also studied through hands on activities.
3rd to 6th Grade: Traditions With a Wink
Each session in this curriculum explores traditional spiritual traditions interpreted for UU's.
7th to 12th Grade: What Do You Stand For?
This youth curriculum helps young people to frame life's important questions and to better develop the ability to think for themselves. Values and identity development are stressed.
CHILDREN'S CHAPEL
Pre K to 6th grade meet at the end of RE class for Children's Worship. The Children’s Chapel is a short worship service held for this age group. It provides an opportunity for the children to interact in a small and safe community where they can explore lifes' great mysteries. Each Sunday there are messages, songs and sharing. Worship can follow a theme or center on a holiday or Unitarian Universalist principle. The following is said as our Chalice is lit:
We light this candle to remind ourselves to treat all people kindly becasue they are our brothers and sisters, to take care of the earth because it is our home, to live lives full of goodness and love because that is how we will become the BEST people we can be!
YOUTH WORSHIP
Youth Worship for grades 7 to 12, begins at 11:00am. Topics are related to their interests. Youth are welcome to create their own service, using their own topics, music and readings. Within the worship service, youth can share their joys and concerns from the previous week. Issues of particular interest can be shared and explored with others in a safe setting.
FAMILY / INTERGENERATIONAL WORSHIP
Several times a year Intergenerational and Family services are held. Children and Youth may have the opportunity to particpate in these services, through music, shared readings and poetry, along with other members of the congregation and the Minister. These worship services are appropriate for all ages.
OWL, COA and Sophia Fahs RE Camp
An "Our Whole Lives" sexuality education program and a "Coming of Age" program are offered through the Long Isand Area Council Religious Education group (LIAC RE). We can also participate in a one week UU camp experience on Shelter Island. More about these programs is explained on their web site: www.liacuu.org
Families are invited to visit with us any Sunday!
